UCREW – Virginia Tech February 5, 2019

CREW Richmond has been working overtime to help educate young women (and men) as to the vast career opportunities available within the commercial real estate world. CREW Richmond attended their first Virginia Tech event on February 5th. Brenda Karp and Debbie Wake showcased CREW Richmond membership and scholarships to students in the Program in Real Estate at their Spring 2019 REAL Career Event. Brenda and Debbie were joined by 2018 CREW Richmond Kathy Ivins scholarship recipient, Ginny Richards. Ginny again expressed her gratitude to CREW Richmond for the scholarship and spoke to other young women about the benefits of CREW. Plans are in the works to attend another career event in early September.

UCREW – VSU February 21, 2019

Quickly following the CREW Network Leadership Summit, your CREW Network Liaison committee visited VSU to speak with business students about CREW and the larger commercial real estate world. Fun! Rewarding! Refreshing! These are the first words that came to mind immediately following the event. Instead of sticking to our prepared script and activity, we had an improvisational Q&A session, which kept things relevant and engaging. Skip Stevens started the morning off with donuts – giving the students the sugar rush they needed to engage quickly. After the edible bribery, Jennifer Parham, Brenda Karp, and Meg O’Brien joined Skip in giving a brief synopsis of their roles in commercial real estate. We then had a 45 min. Q&A session focusing on all the parts & pieces of a commercial real estate deal. Several of the students have their sights set on owning their own businesses and were amazed by the amount of time, expertise and funds required to follow their dreams.

Following class, the CREW group met with students at the CREW booth to talk further about scholarship opportunities, CREW Network & CREW Richmond. It was a great introduction to the next generation of CREW members!
