For the CREW March Lunch Meeting, members and non-members enjoyed a site tour at the recently renovated Dumbarton Library, which now houses the Henrico County Recreations & Parks headquarters. Commonwealth Architects and representatives from Henrico County shared a brief history of the building, including its role as a school and later as a library, and their process for recreating the space to meet the needs of the Recreation & Parks Depart-ment. Special credit was given to interior designer Ginny Johnston (previously employed at Commonwealth Architects) for her innovative solutions on a tight budget. CREW attendees then enjoyed a tour of the entire space to view how branding was incorporated into the existing space, existing historic details were preserved, and ample space was provided to Recreation & Parks to carry out their programming, planning and overall mission. This was a great example of how structures with historical significance can live on in today’s day and age while still pro-moting community engagement.
